Georgian Town House with original features and sympathetic modernisation. Considerable focus on attention to detail, i.e. antique wallpaper lined joinery – pantry, toiletry, media and shoe storage cupboards etc. These are as lovely behind their closed doors, as they are on the outside. The integrated lined cupboards make great spaces for shooting products within multiple coordinated settings.
Exposed lime plaster walls are on show in numerous spaces, the beautiful natural patterns and historical colours of the distressed plaster sit alongside traditional wooden panelling and heritage sisal flooring.
Subtle contemporary twists complement the traditional patina, with use of materials such as polished concrete, as seen in the dining area and wet room floors. Plywood brings warmth where contemporary storage and furniture has been added. Vintage wallpaper brings pattern, on a small subtle scale.
Delicate balance and tension between old and new provides freshness and versatility throughout. While the Georgian proportions and windows lend an eternal elegance to the rooms. The kitchen for example is neither purely shaker, or totally minimalist in style – it takes its cue from the simple and elegant design of the period, when the property was built in 1802.
The master bedroom’s antique roll top bath has a great vantage point, on its split level marble floor with exposed pink plaster backdrop and crisp shadow gap detailing. The wetroom shower space also provides flexibility for bathroom shoots, with no glass screen or enclosure to work around, reclaimed encaustic tiles instead simply encapsulate the room.
The large childrens bedroom with bespoke furnishing provides a great space for shooting kidswear, toys or accessories. A custom made corner headboard, floating reclaimed marble shelf and antique art deco ‘shell’ sofa add unique personality amidst the original Georgian detailing.
A NOTE FROM THE OWNER
Visitors to the house are always struck by how peaceful they feel here. I hope this comes from getting the balance right between everything that goes into the creation of an interior, for each unique project in question.
With a career in architectural and interior design, this house has been my opportunity to create a space for myself over the last 8 years, which I hope has credibility and longevity for years to come. This, largely owing to the reverence it pays to the period of the property, while allowing modernity in, so as to avoid becoming a time warp or static museum exhibition.
