This house successfully blends a modern contemporary building with an ancient 15C timber barn, there is lots of glass, exposed concrete walls and floors, black marble throughout the location, as well as fully exposed oak timber perfectly married with exposed mild steel. This property was only completed last year, as a new-build low energy home with 20 solar panels, underfloor heating and a ground source heat pump.
The kitchen is large, with a tall ceiling and a full height glazed facade that looks out onto a 2 acre field. Large 3m x 3m sliding doors open the kitchen up to the garden. There is also a 6m long kitchen island fully clad in black marble which provides a fantastic prep backdrop, all kitchen units are matte black finish.
The ancient barn has been converted into a living space which features two steel mezzanine upper levels accessed by floating steel staircases. There are some pieces of mid-century furniture as well as a mini-grand piano and a pool table.
Outside, there is a Mediterranean style garden peppered with herbs and concrete surfaces with a hot tub and dining table. A view of the duck pond and trees from within the barn offers a perfect space for relaxation.
There is ample parking on a gravel driveway for about 6-8 vehicles accessed by two electric gates.
A note from the owner:
“The house offers a bright & striking kitchen dining space with exposed steel, concrete & an abundance of marble. In stark contrast to this is the calm & soothing space within the triple height barn surrounded by ancient timber, discreet lighting & exposed mild steel. The views of the field & pond are also soothing factors.”
