Across the Royal Hospital Chelsea’s 66-acre site, there is something for every production. From the towering 17th century red brick facades that have doubled for Harvard University, to sprawling parkland that can double as Central Park.
Designed by Sir Christopher Wren, the Colonnade has provided a useful alternative to Greenwich and the paintable rooms in Wren House offer flexibility to be dressed as a residential property, high-powered offices, and even a Downing Street double.
The Stable Yards can easily be dressed as a modern cafe, town square, flower market, or the shutters can be closed for period productions looking for a 19th Century, cobbled courtyard. Many rooms at the Royal Hospital also feature wood-panelling, including the Great Hall, State Apartments and stunning Wren Chapel. Each of these spaces also contain the original furniture to the room and historic paintings.
The Exteriors also contain multiple sporting facilities, including tennis courts. Football and cricket pitches. The Cricket Pavilion has two changing rooms, which can be used for filming or supporting the green room space.
West Road is a completely controllable road on site that has already been used as both a double for Camden street and for motorcycle stunts. From September until April, the Royal Hospitals South Grounds are also available to host unit bases and tech parking, to both support filming on site as well as nearby shoots.
