Smith Square Hall is based in Westminster, SW1P, and falls within the City of Westminster. This beautiful Grade I listed building, formerly known as St John’s Smith Square, is widely regarded as one of the finest examples of English Baroque architecture. Originally completed in 1728 and designed by renowned architect Thomas Archer, the venue now serves as a prestigious multi-purpose location.
Situated within the peaceful surroundings of Smith Square, the building is framed by original Georgian townhouses, mature trees and traditional gas-lit street lanterns, creating an elegant period setting both inside and out. The grand interior features soaring proportions, twelve monumental columns, an impressive canopy ceiling, striking black and white chequered flooring, a beautifully crafted wooden gallery, a large brass chandelier, and a fully functioning pipe organ. Together, these architectural features create a dramatic and highly versatile environment.
Beyond the main hall, the venue boasts additional filming opportunities. A vaulted crypt with exposed brickwork provides a completely contrasting atmosphere and regularly operates as a Café & Bar, while dedicated dressing rooms, stage areas, and quaint garden spaces with portico steps on both the north and south sides of the building add further flexibility for your shoot.
Parking is available on site, with four reserved parking spaces that can be booked in advance for production vehicles. The nearest public transport link is Westminster Underground Station, approximately a 7-minute walk from the venue.
The property runs on a domestic power supply, with 13-amp sockets distributed throughout the main hall and a 125-amp three-phase supply available in the South Gallery. The property benefits from disabled access via the box office entrance, with additional access available from both sides of the hall via the portico entrances.
