Built in c1710 the Grade II* listed house of over 4,000 sq ft has retained many period features and is full of character. It has a flagstone reception hall, a light and airy paneled drawing room with french doors that lead to a balustraded balcony with views over gardens and a mill pond. Steeped in history, you will be able to see bricked up windows, removed because of the window tax, and 5 original fireplaces and much paneling.
Set across two floors, there are 5 good sized bedrooms and 4 ensuite bathrooms. The master bedroom has a paneled dressing room with views over the gardens and huge original bolts to put over the doors to the stairs. In the attic rooms there are huge exposed beams, and the landing between, houses a library nook with bursting book shelves.
Downstairs the sun drenched open-plan kitchen dining room has views down the garden. There is an island with a hob, and a cool pantry. French doors lead out to a south facing lawn, while bi-fold patio doors, open onto the patio and main lawn that runs the length of the beautiful mill pond. Also downstairs is a warm and cosy cellar, a utility room and wine cellar.
The house is set in 1.4 acres of gardens. The front of the house is home to a walled garden bursting with wild roses in the summer, and housing a swimming pool beyond which is a wisteria-clad pergola, terrace area and pool house. There is also a small rustic potting shed.
The lower garden has the benefit of all day sun and is made up of different sections. To the south of the house the upper lawn has a small shed for the ride on mower and more raised flower beds. It has been known for the ducks and swans to appear at the kitchen cat flap and knock for food. This lawn slopes down to a lower lawn that boasts a magnificent view along the length of the mill pond.
The back of the house is accessed by a ramp/ steps from the drive and has a large patio area, where there is a wood fired hot tub, table tennis table and loggia complete with garden table. Further, down the lawn is a landing area from which a boat can be launched for trips on the pond and from which to feed the many resident ducks and the pair of mating swans. Further down the lawn there is a charming greenhouse, leading down to the dove cote. At the bottom of the garden a bridge across the pond provides an incredible view back down the pond over the majestic house. Finally, a magical woodland path runs back towards the house nestled between the mill pond and the chalk river.
There is a long gravel drive down to the house and parking for about 8 cars. There is also a large 4 car garage, which is accessed through a double garage door, and has a pit which is entered from the large log shed which butts onto the garage.
A NOTE FROM THE OWNER
We have loved this house since we first viewed it as a family and as its custodians have fallen under its spell. We are so close to London and Pinewood, and this seemed like a lovely way to share something we find so special. There are so many parts to the house and gardens that it lends itself to many different things. We have been enchanted by the local wildlife and challenge anyone to not feed the baby ducks that will follow you round the garden in the summer, or the swans and ducks who knock at the window when they feel like some grub.
